Project Iterations . . .

When a communication design project is complex like this one, I find the best proof-of-concept method is to keep iterating for whatever time it takes to give the project a rough form. Prototypes are the next step. People respond to something they can hold in their hands. And, that’s when feedback can get really interesting.

Over the past three years I’ve been developing a new book project about awareness and transformation. To be specific, I’ve been writing, designing and illustrating a book that furthers a conversation about life and death initiated with my first book entitled From This Moment On: A Guide for Those Recently Diagnosed With Cancer. I wrote that book almost 20 years ago after surviving my own terminal diagnosis because I wanted to empower newly diagnosed patients at a critical moment in their lives.

My new book will be a primer for adults that explores ideas about what it means to live an awakened life. Once again, the format is unusual. It’s an experiential book filled with 78 figures and 418 micro teaching stories that provoke self-reflection, embed knowledge and open portals to awareness. The book frames a dialogue about our essential qualities; on a human level, in a natural way, using plain language. It’s been a rewarding personal project that reflects a lifetime of my own spiritual enquiry. If this sounds like a long time to be seeking, it is. This chubby, experiential guide will save other seekers time by encouraging more immediate encounter. It is my hope that by sharing some provocations, readers will re-awaken to their own lives long before the final pages of the book.

After all the excitement of energy vortices
    and past life incarnations,
    awakening might seem rather ordinary.
Awakening is closer than all that.
